2011 ECF Royalty

Nicholle Hatton

2011 Elbert County Fair Queen

Tawni Strachan

2011 Elbert County Princess

Hello everyone!! My name is Nicholle Hatton. I am 17 years old and live east of Parker Colorado. I am the daughter of Chris Hatton and Kristi Doke. This past year I decided to try out to become your 2011 Elbert County Fair Queen. After weeks of preparing, the day at the competition, and let’s not forget
the long two week waiting to hear the results, I am honored and proud to be your 2011 Queen.

This is my 12th year in 4-H. I have completed a range of projects; everything from dog obedience and horse (both English and Western) to clothing and photography. My favorite project is horse judging. I also compete with the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA). I have experienced great success and qualified for nationals in 2010. This year, I have decided to focus on my reining competitions, attending my Queen events and participating in the 4-H horse project including horse judging. I hope to qualify once again for the NRHA Nationals. 4-H has brought me so much and I continue to learn a lot about life and myself. I am forever thankful to the 4-H program.

This year I am finishing my junior year at Chaparral High School. In the next year, I will be deciding on which college I want to go to and which college is the best fit for me. Right now I hope to attend Texas A&M. My goal is to ride on their world class NCAA equestrian team and to study agricultural engineering. Engineering has interested me since I was a little girl. I have
my dad to blame for that. He is a brilliant engineer and has exposed my brother and me to the world of engineering. Someday I hope to a great engineer.

The Elbert County Royalty program has been such an incredible experience. It is a privilege to represent our great county and the 4-H program. I have learned to step out from my comfort zone, expand my horizons, and become a more confident person. I would like to expand the program even further by getting more sponsors and encouraging more girls to try out.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me in the past year. Ashley Baller and her mom Cheryl, who if it was not them I would not be your 2011 Queen, they suggested I try-out and helped me prepare for the contest. They have done so much for me and I will never be able to repay them. I would also like to thank the Royalty Coordinator, Mary Louise, and my family for standing behind me and helping me through the year. And of course, I would like to
thank our 2011 Elbert County Princess Tawni Strachan. She is such a blessing and a wonderful person. The events that we have done together thus far have been a blast. Thank you, Tawni for putting up with me and I can’t wait until we get to do more together. Finally, I would like to thank my mom for her unending support and the Lord for blessing me with such a wonderful opportunity.

Blessings,
Nicholle Hatton

Hey everybody my name is Tawni Strachan. I am 14 years old, and I am the 2011 Elbert County Fair Princess. I am so excited to be able to represent Elbert County, the fair, and all the wonderful people that live here. Being Princess is more than I expected. It’s exciting, and I have met so many great people and made some wonderful friends.

I live in Elbert and attend Elbert Junior-Senior High School. This is my fourth year in 4-H and I am participating in the market swine, breeding beef, and roping projects, and the EDCLA’s breeding beef program. I am a third generation 4-Her in my family. I am the daughter of Buddy and Kristi Strachan and an older sister to Aubri Strachan. A lot of you may know me as Roger
Evans’ granddaughter. Yes, I am proud to say that I am the granddaughter to Roger and Diane Evans and Roger Staley.

The competition was stressful, but a great learning experience. I had to complete a horsemanship pattern, tack my horse in front of
the judges, go through a personal interview, model an outfit, present a speech, and answer an impromptu question. To prepare, I put many miles on my horse, practiced my speech over and over, “model walked’ around the house, and a little more.

I would like to thank my parents Buddy and Kristi, for hauling me around, buying me the necessities, and helping with everything. I want to thank my little sister, Aubri, for putting up with the craziness, my grandparents Diane and Roger for taking me around at Stock Show and helping me get ready, feeding me, and more. I would like to thank my Popop (Roger Staley) for the encouraging words, love and support. I would not have even made it this far if it weren’t for my most wonderful “Princess Coach” Shannon Ehlers. She helped me prepare my speech, outfits, and practice everything! She was my life saver. I would also like to our coordinator, Mary Louise Jacobson, for her help all year. I could never forget Chris Hatton and Kristi Doke, Nicholle’s parents, for also hauling me around and helping with anything and everything. I would like to thank PJ Trostell for helping me prepare for competition, and lending me clothes. Of course I have to thank my new found friend, forever partner in crime, and my Queen the 2011 Elbert County Fair Queen, Nicholle Hatton. She has tolerated me all year. She is the best Queen I could ever ask for. Last but certainly not least I would like to thank all of our sponsors for their support.

Also thank you to all of Elbert County for supporting me. I look forward to seeing you all at the 2011 Elbert County Fair in August.
